Abstract
Migration, as one of the most complex social phenomena, encompasses not only the physical movement of individuals from one place to another but also profound transformations in lifestyle, identity, and cultural preferences. Afghan migrants in Iran, as one of the largest migrant groups in the region, have experienced a unique set of these transformations over the past few decades. In this research, drawing on twenty years of experience in the study of Afghan migrants and employing an ethnographic approach, we conducted in-depth interviews with eight migrant families in the Qaem settlement in Qom, focusing on the cultural changes resulting from their presence in Iran. In the realm of lifestyle changes, topics such as shifts in housing patterns, diet and consumption habits, changes in family power structures, the evolving status of girls and women, the concept of childhood, changes in marriage patterns, education, and healthcare were explored. This research can open new avenues for policymaking in the context of migration ecosystems in Iran.
