The performance of women representatives in the Islamic Council of the seventh term (1383-1387)

Abstract
Women’s electoral participation is one of the most important aspects of participatory politics at the national level. The Iranian Parliament, following the constitution and the leadership, serves as an effective organ in decision making and the supervision of national affairs. After the triumph of the Islamic revolution of 1979, women’s electoral participation at various levels was considered essential.following the announcements of the Interior Ministry, the elections were held on 20 February 2004 and 7 May 2004. Of 46,351,032 qualified individuals, 23,734,607 participated amounting to 51.21 percent, which was a smaller percentage compared to previous parliaments. The seventh parliament, with the support of women representatives, considered 54 resolutions and bills on issues pertaining to women, children, and the family, with 20 of them becoming law. These laws covered unaddressed issues and considered a number of foundational issues of strategic importance.This research attempts to answer the following. How did women perform in the seventh parliament? The study’s assertion is as follows: women representatives of the seventh parliament, through the formation of caucuses and the support of fellow representatives, proposed resolutions and amendments to existing laws, and passed laws that became effective tools in the improvement of women’s societal status.
