Abstract
In addition to its role in social reform, social science facilitates development processes in both the "Global South" and the "Global North" through the application of various theories. Many sociologists believe that there are very serious problems in the cognitive and social organization of these sciences. Moreover, the gap between academic sociology and societal needs has led to inefficiencies, resulting in a loss of trust among policymakers and the public. This research aims to understand the social processes shaping this phenomenon, relying on the grounded theory method. Using purposive sampling, interviews were conducted until theoretical saturation was reached. Data were collected through 15 field interviews and 30 written or discussion-based viewpoints. The findings indicate that epistemic components emerged as the most significant and frequently cited cause, which, within the context of a follower culture, has formed a cycle of inability in the field of social science. This cycle is exacerbated by factors such as the commercialization of knowledge and weak financial resources. This cycle of inability has led to the intensification of social crises, a crisis of legitimacy for scientific institutions, academic migration, and the reproduction of dominant power over academic structures.
