"The place of religion in society" can not be found in the common topics of religious studies or even sociology of religion; at the same time, it has not escaped the attention and contemplation of any theorist of religion, and they have addressed it independently or implicitly. Since the answer to it can have significant effects on other topics in this field and determine its path and issues, we have addressed it.

The purpose of this study, after establishing the necessity, was to find the logic and the correct way to answer this question. For this purpose, we first examined the nature of this question, then reviewed the theories of Marx, Tocqueville, and Parsons on religion, and extracted and reported their explicit and implicit answers and we showed that the answers given to the question of the place of religion are typically discursive and oriented, and have followed and continue to follow the social theology intended by the theorist.
