Recognition of Power Indicators within the Families through Qualitative Method

Abstract

The present article is trying to show that how to recognize the indicators of power relationships within the families. Through qualitative research method it is shown how concepts and categories are constructed by using indicators collected through observation and deep interviews with spouses. Since the indicators can be very many and extremely varied, and much verbal and nonverbal behavior can be the indicators of power relationship between spouses, so all information collected are recorded and treated as raw data. After them (indicators) being classified and organized, the following 7 categories and the concepts stemming from them, seemed necessary for studying the power relationship in the families.

Category values and attitudes can be detected through two concepts of freedom and independence.
Category acceptance can be detected through two concepts of trust and respect.
Category satisfaction can be detected through two concepts of being satisfied and complying voluntarily.
Category neediness can be detected through concepts of being in need at the present or perceiving it in the future.
Category choice and responsibilities can be detected through two concepts of ownership and decision making.
Category communication can be detected through two concepts of negotiation and consultation.
Category of cooperation can be detected through two concepts of working together and relating to the children.
