Heterogeneous Agencies in More-Than-Human Sociology; Analysis the Place of Agency in Approaches of More-Than-Human Sociology by Focusing on Actor-Network Theory

Abstract

One of the popular and well-known discussions in the literature of new sociology is a group of approaches known and presented as “More-than-human”. These approaches include many theories and attitudes, from classic sociology of Gabriel Tarde, and his theory as Monadology, and Deleuze- Guattari’s approach related to Assemblage and relation and connection of everything in society, to some approaches as “New Materialism’, which were explained by Harway, Barad, Braidotti, Benet, and finally to some approaches in STS particularly Actor-Network theory, which its most well-known character is Bruno Latour. What made all these approaches close to each other is avoiding of recognizing agency just for humans, and their desire to distribute agencies over heterogeneous actors and entities. What does agencies and heterogeneous agencies really mean in these approaches? Analyzing the most important more-than-human theories and approaches, this paper tries to clear the meaning of this concept presenting a conceptual model.
