The concept of Founding constitutes one of the fundamental pillars in Davari’s thought, emerging as a response to the contemporary crisis of rational and cultural identity. Davari regards founding not merely as a theoretical or mental act, but as an existential and historical activity that enables the creation of new meaning and rational systems, thereby cultivating an authentic and dynamic intellectual and cultural identity. In his view, the principal crisis within Iranian and Islamic culture is the state of non-founding—a condition in which society is unable to initiate or generate new meanings and remains trapped in repetition of tradition or imitation of Western models. Davari interprets this predicament as a result of an inability to engage in creative dialogue with tradition or to address the demands of the modern age. His analysis of the experience of Farabi, as a successful founder of philosophy in the Islamic world, demonstrates that genuine founding goes beyond translation or transfer of thought; it requires the courage to pose new questions and to establish innovative language and conceptual frameworks. For Davari, the realization of founding is an existential necessity for overcoming the identity crisis and for constructing a meaningful and rational future for Islamic culture.
