This article explores the transformation of the discourse on sexuality during the Pahlavi II era, showing how sexual matters shifted from the private to the public sphere. In this period, the body and sexuality became tools for redefining modernity and youth. Influenced by Western cultural models and Farah Pahlavi’s modernist vision, the regime promoted bodily display through cinema, fashion, architecture, and the Shiraz Arts Festival, seeking to discipline and commodify the body. This policy, however, conflicted with Iran’s religious and traditional values, creating deep cultural tensions that contributed to revolutionary discontent and turned sexuality into a political and ideological arena of contestation.
