The present study aimed to investigate cultural and social shifts in naming patterns in the city of Kermanshah and to analyze the changes associated with the process of modernization in this context. Methodology: This research adopted a qualitative approach using semi-structured interviews. The participants included 23 residents of Kermanshah, selected through purposive sampling. The data were coded and analyzed using thematic analysis. The analysis of the interviews identified seven main themes: 1) Cultural and historical changes in names, characterized by a decline in religious names and an increase in national and ethnic ones; 2) The role of the government and civil registration regulations in restricting or facilitating the name-change process; 3) The importance of “uniqueness” and “aesthetics” of names from the parents’ perspective; 4) Identity challenges resulting from having two names (official vs. unofficial); 5) The influence of media (particularly television series and social networks) in popularizing unique names; 6) The emphasis on the cultural meaning and significance of names as a parental priority; and 7) The impact of a name on an individual’s personality, self-confidence, and social status. Naming patterns in Kermanshah have evolved from a predominant inclination toward repetitive religious names to national, ethnic, unique, and meaningful names.
