Iran's social and cultural developments over the past two decades have caused a significant change in the religious experience of the new generation, especially in the metropolis of Tehran. The aim of this study is to understand the lived experience of Tehrani youth regarding the phenomenon of religiosity. The present study was conducted with a qualitative approach and based on interpretive phenomenology. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 15 young people in the 1980s in different areas of Tehran and analyzed using the phenomenological content analysis method. The findings show that the religiosity of Tehrani youth has five main characteristics: (1) emotional-ritual religiosity, (2) individual and non-institutional spirituality, (3) critical and questioning religiosity, (4) dual and tense religious experience, (5) redefinition of religiosity in the context of cyberspace. Based on the results, the religiosity of this generation can be understood neither in traditional formats nor in classical theories of secularization; Rather, it is a fluid, selective, and individualized form of religiosity that is reproduced in the context of social networks and urban realities in Tehran. The theoretical and cultural implications of these findings for religious studies, youth sociology, and cultural policymaking are discussed.
